Hi everyone! Ive been prescribed doxycyline for a skin infection and was wondering if anyone could help me understand the dosage better. My doctor gave me some instructions but Im still a bit confused about how often to take it and what happens if I miss a dose.

Hey @HealthyHippie! It sounds like you're dealing with something that can be easily managed. Doxycycline is typically prescribed at doses of 100 mg to 200 mg per day, split into one or two doses. For most skin infections, a common dose is 100 mg taken twice daily, about 12 hours apart.

Thanks for the info @MedMaven! I was taking it once per day but my skin isnt showing any improvement. Should I switch to twice daily?

@HealthyHippie Its important to stick with what your doctor prescribed unless youve talked to them about changing the dosage or schedule. If youre not seeing improvement, it could be worth contacting your healthcare provider for a follow-up consultation.

@HealthyHippie I agree with @MedicalMind. Stick to the prescribed dosage and schedule until you can get in touch with your doctor. If you do miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember if it's not too close (like within an hour) to your next scheduled dose. Just don't double up on doses; that could cause side effects.

Thanks for the advice! Ill definitely reach out to my doctor and let them know about the lack of improvement. Any other tips for managing side effects or interactions with food?

@HealthyHippie Doxycycline can cause some gastrointestinal issues like nausea or upset stomach. Taking it with food might help alleviate those symptoms. Also, avoid taking doxycyline with dairy products (milk, cheese) as calcium can interfere with its absorption. Stay hydrated and maintain a balanced diet to support your bodys healing process.

@HealthyHippie Good luck! Remember that everyone responds differently to medication, so don't hesitate to reach out to your doctor if you have any concerns or if things arent improving as expected. They can adjust the dosage or prescribe an alternative treatment if necessary.
